There are so many underwater Pokemon that there is an entire ocean dedicated to them.
Today we will be talking about my favorite twenty-one fish Pokemon, which you can catch in anime.
Some of these will be obvious. Others may not. But I hope you have fun exploring the Pokeverse in search of the most adorable, creepiest, and strangest things!
Best Fish Pokemon
- Goldeen
It looks like a goldfish and has a portmanteau name that includes ‘queen’ and ‘goldfish.
It is a simple goldfish. It is a white fish with orange markings on its forehead and a small uni horn on its forehead.
Are you a fan of goldfish? We have an iconic goldfish for your enjoyment. Goldeen is a goldenfish.
It became a fan favorite over the years, likely because of nostalgia.
They are also said to be fast swimmers and can use their horns to cut through currents. So, that’s neat.
- Arrokuda
Based on anchovy and barracuda, but with a distinctive arrow design, Arrokuda is a beloved Pokemon.
Its adorable, earnest eyes, grin, and tiny tooth peeking out of the corner are so endearing, that I felt guilty about not including it.
It’s also incredibly beautiful, with three direction-arrows and dorsal fins that resemble arrow feathers.
It evolves into Barraskewda at level 26, however, I love the original form even more.
It has also been used by bigger, more tactical Pokemon like Cramorant in anime.
- Bruxish
I looked into the eyes of Bruxish and saw this.
Bruxish is the epitome of grotesque and the antithesis of clean design. Yet, it’s art! The palette includes yellow, pink, purple, and teal.
It is kind of disgusting. The Pokemon has a creepy, toothy look and fluttering eyes that make it seem like it is proposing something.
You might not want to hear it. It is fitting for their power, I think because they use their spiritual capabilities to intimidate their enemies into fleeing.
It is, however, a real eyesore and it makes me smile. There is a condition called “bruxism” that causes incessant gnashing and grinding of the teeth. It’s something to consider.
- Luvdisc
This is where you’ll see a pattern. Ahem! Luvdisc, a disc-shaped like a love heart, is named for…
It’s a disc-shaped love heart. They congregate in spring to make the ocean bright pink and often live in warm waters.
Their flat bodies provide the aerodynamics needed for flight. They can glide briefly by kissing. They are truly a rare specimens.
- Stunfisk
Stunfisk, a Ground/Electric-type Pokemon based on flatfishes and electric rays, is a strange fish Pokemon. It also comes in a Ground/Steel version.
It tends to spend most of its time underground and can produce small electrical discharges when threatened.
It has wide, simple eyes and tiny pupils.
It was simple and unique, and it is incredibly lovable. Unfortunately, this is because it does not possess any evolved forms or power.
- Mantine
Mantine’s evolutionary tree is also unusual. It is an evolution of a Mantyke, but it only occurs when there are Remoraids in the party during leveling up.
It is strongly reminiscent of a manta ray, hence its name. It is often accompanied by the Remoraid that it evolved with.
The Remoraid may be a cleaner fish that assists the Mantine in hygiene as they are both herbivores who are docile.
Its cute design is a delight.
Although it can defend itself in a fight you won’t see it in professional tournaments. You will often see it walking across the oceans carrying trainers with a smile and a happy face.
- HuntailHuntail
Clamperl was cute, Huntail was not. Let’s get this out of the way: Huntail hasn’t won any beauty pageants and I doubt that he’s most peoples’ first choice at prom.
But don’t wait! But wait!
Let’s look at it: They often swim in deep water. The large eyes are evolutionary. And what else?
They appear to have a largemouth to swallow their prey whole… Oh, well that’s unfortunate. But every – Oh, and common belief maintains that Huntails washing up on beaches is a sign that they are in trouble.
Ok, Huntail may be a bit of an abomination, but that could be why he is so unique.
- Qwilfish
It is not surprising that Qwilfish is a Poison/Water type. It must first absorb more than 2 gallons of water to inflate and then use deflation pressure for its poisonous quills to attack the enemy.
It is part of the Balloon Pokemon Family, which is known for its buoyancy and inflating abilities. Unfortunately, it cannot swim well because of its buoyancy.
Despite the simple design, I adore the Qwilfishes’ determination and simplicity. It won’t go down without fighting – this is just the beginning.
- Whiscash
That is one goofy smile! It’s all there: the space between the eyes and the smiley, satisfied expression, the curly hairs, and the curving mouth.
The crown-like emblem on the forehead is even included!
Although it may look like a random Pokemon, the design was clearly thought out.
It stands out and it’s always pleasant to encounter it, even though it’s not everyone’s favorite Pokemon.
It is a terrifying creature that can cause earthquakes up to three miles in distance. They live in swamps and are often found waiting to eat any living thing that might be within their territory.
- Chinchou
Chinchou is blatantly inspired by the anglerfish and has a cute name that perfectly fits its adorable design (apparently a play of words for “lantern” in Japanese).
It is small at only 0.5m and weighs 12.0 kgs. The antennae end in glowing orbs and signs in the middle of the eyes are glowing.
It embodies the Water/Electric-typing it was given, floating seamlessly through the current yet capable of withstanding a powerful zap it can inflict upon the surrounding environment.
Despite its size, it is still carnivorous and attracted to prey by the glow of the orbs that are close to deep-dark ocean floors.
- Gorebyss
Gorebyss is a magnificently beautiful creature. It has a sleek, pink, white, and purple design that reminds me of Sylveon and Luvdisc.
It is a Clamperl-like creature that evolves from Huntail. However, instead of being a nice Mohawk eel thing, it becomes this beautiful creature.
It moves in rhythmic motion through the ocean, looking like a serpentine or eel.
It can drain bodily fluids from a living creature until it is dry, despite its adorable appearance.
You should not keep one. Even the name of this animal is a warning sign.
- Gastrodon
Gastrodon and Shellos, their Water-type devolved form, are slug-like Pokemon. (Gastrodon has both a Ground/Water typing).
Their appearance can be almost mirror-like depending on where they live.
It is not surprising that there are many types of Gastrodon/Shellos in Sinnoh.
They are able to regenerate very quickly and can often be found in shallow swimming pools, where they eat plankton.
Dehydration means they can’t stay on the ground for too long, but they are known to hunt occasionally.
Their soft pastille design reflects their docility as herbivorous Pokemon. In real life, I don’t like slugs but… These guys are adorable… I don’t know if they’d be able to ride one of mine, but…
- Carvanha
Carvanha is the Dark/Water-type Pokemon that has been most suited by Pokemon. Its name is a combination of ‘piranha’ and ‘carnivore.
This is a powerful fish Pokemon of the first rank, but it also has the lowest defense stats.
It is nevertheless made up of jagged contours and spikes. It resembles a combination of a piranha or shark, but it has a red/blue/yellow aesthetic with narrow menacing eyes.
- Wishiwashi
Wishiwashi has a great name, but also an amazing design.
It is a relatable and iconic fish Pokemon because of its combination of the grey, cerulean and teal color palettes.
Wishiwashi is unique in the fact that once they reach level 20, they can change their forms via Schooling. This makes them Lovecraftian creatures. As long as it has a higher than 25% HP, Wishiwashi can manifest out of hundreds of Wishiwashi.
Both designs are stunning and stand out as unique fish Pokemon.
The base form is a weaker form than the School form, but it has the best stats.
- Eelektross
Eelektross is a unique design that resembles a combination of an electric eel or a parasitic leech.
It uses its long sucker-ended arms and claws to climb out of the sea, latching onto passersby and dragging them into deep water.
It is a horrifying design that looks very much like Eelektrik’s previous form – which is quite shocking considering Tynamo’s tiny original form.
- Horsea
Horsea is a Water-type Pokemon that has become a legend due to its friendship with Misty from the original anime. Its simple but charming design makes it one of the most beloved Pokemon.
It is adorable because of its small, angelic dorsal fins and curled tail. The plump, plushy design makes it even cuter.
Horsea’s namesake is, if it was not obvious, the Seahorse. It’s startling, I know.
- Relicanth
Relicanth, a fossil Pokemon, is not classified. It is a Rock-type with similar gender ratios and is often called ancient or a Relic.
The recent discovery of the coelacanth is what inspired them. These living fossils were previously thought to be extinct for over 100 million years.
Relicanths can be found in the deepest oceans, but they are able to resurface occasionally.
It is a unique, alien-looking Pokemon and one of the oldest Pokemon that has been recorded chronologically.
Relicanth is a beloved Pokemon because of its importance in the franchise and the real world.
- Finneon
This tiny neon-tadpole is adorable. It is simply stunning, and the purple stripe on its side stores sunlight to create dazzling rivers in the dark.
Its tail fins look like butterflies and add asymmetrical sublimity. This unique stage-1 fish is full of personality and wonder.
- Manaphy
Manaphy is based on small transparent sea slugs called sea angels.
Manaphy, which is almost entirely water-based, makes a great ball for sea-volleyball.
It is a Mythical-type Pokemon and a member of the sea guardians.
You can also look at it! Isn’t it adorable? Its little penguin flipper arms are adorable! It is simply amazing.
- Dragalge
Dragale is a descendant of Srelp, which can be found at level 48. It looks amazing. It has a sea dragon-inspired design with the main color of brown and a red crest. The green antennae is added to the top.
It appears completely alien, like something deep under the sea, and its territorial attitude mirrors its aggressive appearance.
Its name is a mix of algae and dragon since the latter is what it eats most. However, it can engage in skirmishes for resources and space if necessary and can even spit extremely acidic poison.
- Magikarp
Is it necessary to introduce our little orange guy? It stares interminably at you. It’s a gormlessly loving mouth that is staring at you for all eternity.
It is a well-known Pokemon and an anthropomorphism that has a lot of potential.
It may appear pathetic, but it is actually… Waiting to evolve, unleashing all its fury upon those who don’t believe it.
